AT&T announced on Monday it scored a new data services contract from Ritzman Pharmacies, a Wadsworth, Ohio-based community pharmacy group with nine additional locations in Akron.

Ritzman has hired AT&T (News - Alert) to become the group’s primary data-services provider for the next three years. Under the partnership AT&T will deliver the telecom’s multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) private network transport (PNT) in combination with Cisco hardware to all nine pharmacy locations.

According to AT&T's news release, its MPLS PNT will enable “unified communications among the pharmacy locations.” The move will also provide the firm with added bandwidth for its private network, sustained by Cisco hardware.

“Our business is continually growing, and we needed a provider capable of supporting our expanding communications needs at a competitive price,” said Ritzman Pharmacies’ chief technology officer, Larry Fligor, in a statement. “We're certain that the solution delivered by AT&T will not only support our current applications, such as medical billing and online patient records, but also provide the flexibility to help us prepare for future expansion.”

Today's news follows AT&T's announcement on Thursday about entering into an agreement with The Library Network (TLN), a public library cooperative which serves 55 libraries throughout the southeastern part of the state of Michigan. Under the new, three-year agreement, the telecom giant will upgrade the cooperative's network through the deployment of the OPT-E-MAN and AT&T network-based virtual private network (VPN).
